Welcome to Creative Matakana 2020!

We’re very excited that courses for next year are now being finalised. Here’s a brief heads-up on what we plan to be offering.

Five-day courses in 2020 will include painting with Toby Raine, creative writing with Anne Kennedy, travel sketching with Erin Hill, painting and drawing with Helene Carpenter, textile art with Alysn Midegelow-Marsden, screen-printing on iron with Jeff Thomson and to cap it off, a workshop with Lindsay Marks to make your very own ukulele.

Short courses are to cover art photography with Di Halstead, botanical art with Tabatha Forbes, floral stitched painting with Fleur Woods, iPhone photography/video production with Mandi Lynn and fabric screen-printing with Ingrid Anderson.

But wait – there’s more…

Each year there’s an extra element to Creative Matakana. In 2017 it was all about food with cutting-edge chefs; 2018 brought brilliant garden designers and 2019 had a Japanese design theme. In 2020, there’ll be a series of one-off days with an architecture and design focus, which will have input from leading professionals (and delicious lunches included!). We can confirm that Mike Petre (designer of the Vivian gallery and the Sawmill Brewery) will be involved, as will architecture photographer Simon Devitt, and there’ll be more to come.

Extra events will include our usual warm welcome evening at the Vivian Gallery, and the special participant’s dinner which is always lively. Scott Lawrie will open the Vivian Gallery to us on Wednesday night for his guided tour, and of course there’ll be our Friday finale event which is always both fun and food for thought.

Full information will be on the website by the end of November; bookings will open online on January 13, 2020 at 8am.

Don’t forget to mention Creative Matakana to your friends and family – they can hit the ‘subscribe’ button on the website to receive their own email newsletters. And of course, make sure you like us on Facebook for updates.

Much more detailed info will all be online by November. Look forward to seeing you in 2020!
